The first day of England's warm-up against the Lions in Perth was a rollercoaster. Stokes, fresh from a four-month shoulder injury layoff, dominated with the ball, claiming six wickets. However, the fast-bowling duo of Stokes and Mark Wood, who was returning from a nine-month knee injury, faced an unexpected hurdle. Wood, who bowled a pre-planned eight overs, had to leave the field due to a hamstring issue, leaving England with a big question mark over his availability for the Ashes.

While Jacks enhanced his chances of being called up later in the tour with his 84, the real talking point is England's bowling strategy. With five seamers in the XI, including Stokes, and the absence of off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, England's plans for the first Test remain unclear.
